Recently, the leaders of 4 communities of the Acamas peninsula implemented a hunger strike near the Presidential Palace. The subject of this protestation was the governmental unwillingness to take the measures in the district development. The implementation of this problem was expected for the last 16 years. In conformity with the development plan of this area the communities proposed the agreement to build tourist and private constructions. The communities decided that the Acamas area conservation to be limited till the boundaries of the national forests. The government promises to take in account this decision and will implement a compromise plan which will satisfy the requirements of the Acamas citizens, but at the same time will be kept in safety the natural environment. According to the decision of the minister of internal affairs, the determinative conclusion regarding this matter will be implemented during this year. Acamas, with its pristine nature, rare fauna and picturesque landscapes is the most unspoilt area conservation in Cyprus. Lara flow is the last retreat of the green tortoises entered in the Red Book. Long time ago there was situated an ancient Roman town, which ruins exists till our days. If in this area will be built cyprus villas and hotels, within short time the local people will regret about. One cannot think only about present profit.
